JULIE BRETON ART | WORK IN PROGRESS

I am taking a breather from my regular art practice to experiment with new support and media. It is very exciting to work with translucent Yupo paper as well as rag paper which is proving to be more difficult. With these study, I am hoping to break through to a more intuitive style of painting.

I am purposely moving away from representational work all together to explore form and colour. I want to discover where intuition will take me as oposed to concern myself with aesthetics. You can follow my progress on Instagram below.

JULIE BRETON ART | BOTANICAL DRAWING

Inspired by Victorian Era Glasshouses I started to draw and paint on transluscent Yupo paper. I like the transparency I get with this support and how it reacts to the different media I experiment with. I create imaginary landsacpes and botanical worlds using charcoal, graphite, pastel, acrylic paint, ink and even collage.

Because the paper is translucent the artwork and it’s colours are finally revealed when backed with a neutral grey or colorful cardstock. You can follow this series progress on Instagram.
